The Alta Marshal’s Office is the law enforcement agency for the Town of Alta and can be reached for non-emergencies at (801) 742-3522 and by dialing 911 in emergencies.

Please contact us any time of day if you are in need of assistance and to report suspicious activity.

We are often asked about the term “Marshal”. Utah statutes dictate that police departments be classified by the population they serve. Counties have Sheriff’s Departments, cities have police departments, and incorporated towns may appoint a Town Marshal. We are proud to be one of the few remaining agencies in Utah designated as such.

The Marshal’s Office works closely with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office who provides law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Major incidents, highway avalanche control, and search and rescue calls are often responded to jointly by both agencies. The  Sheriff's Office non-emergency telephone number is (385) 468-9898.

Officers are equipped for extreme conditions and varied terrain.

The Alta Justice Court sessions are held one Thursday a month at 5:30 PM, with Judge Paul Farr presiding. The court office is open weekdays from 10:00 – 4:00 pm, and it is located in the Town Office. The court phone number is (801) 742-2407; to schedule an appearance at the Alta Justice Court please call the Court Clerk at this number. You can also pay a traffic citation online by going to the utcourts.gov website and following the links to pay fines, justice courts, and search by the citation number.

The Alta Fire Department was founded in 1974 and operated for 28 years out of the Alta Fire Station, a building which currently houses the Alta Post Office and the Alta Community Center. Since the Alta Fire Department closed in 2002, we have contracted with the Unified Fire Authority of Greater Salt Lake (UFA) to provide all fire and hazardous materials protection, medical emergency response, and to enforce fire codes within Town limits.

The Alta Ski Patrol provides first aid response to Alta Ski Area guests. The Alta Medical Clinic is located on the northeast corner of the Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge, and it is open from 9:30 AM to https://storage.googleapis.com/juniper-media-library/153/2024/11, seven days a week, during the Alta Ski Area operating season. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

988 is a new, national suicide and mental health crisis lifeline available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Calls to 988 will be connected to trained counselors who are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network.
