Any dog found within the Boundaries of the Town must be licensed by the town per Ordinance 5-2-3: Animal Control. Regulations on licensing, renewals, applications, waste disposal, dogs on leash, reporting attacks etc. are also found in the ordinance. All alta dog licensees shall agree to have read, understand, and willingly abide by these regulations. Please refer to our Ordinance for a Description of Various License Classes and the Resolutions Page of Our Website for the Number in Each Class. The town is also posting and sharing access to the 1997 FS Special Order regarding prohibited acts on national forest lands in little cottonwood canyon.
Annual Licenses:
There are a finite number of Town of Alta dog licenses. Dog licenses may become available on an annual basis to eligible applicants. If a drawing occurs, it will take place in May.

- Available April 1, 2025 Dog Drawing Application: Please wait until April 1st to fill out the form.
- Deadline: Applications will be accepted from April 1 - April 30, 2025 at 11:59 PM. No applications will be accepted outside this timeframe
- Drawing Details: The drawing will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Alta Town Office. Everyone entering the drawing is encouraged to attend either in person or via Zoom webinar - register by clicking here - but attendance is not mandatory.

Proof of eligibility: The following information is being posted to guide you in meeting ordinance requirements for the respective class of license. It is not intended to be limiting or all-encompassing of the types of documents that may be submitted to prove eligibility.
For Class A: There are 2 qualification requirements you need to submit:
1) You may request a voter ID card or voter certificate (proving residency) by contacting the Salt Lake County Election Division at 385-468-8683
2) To prove that you have lived in the Town of Alta for at least six months you may submit utility bills or other documentation that shows both your current status and that as of 6 months ago
For Class B: You need to submit documentation showing that you are the current owner of real property in Alta. One entry per eligible person per address, please.
