Voter Registration
The requirements to become a registered voter are:

  • Citizen of the United States;
  • Resident of Utah for at least 30 days immediately before the election;
  • At least 18 years old on the day of the election;
  • At least 17 years old for some Primary Elections if you will be 18 prior to the associated General Election;
  • Reside in the voting district or precinct in which the person applies to register to vote.

Notice of 2025 Municipal Election
General Election: November 4, 2025

The following positions and candidates are to be voted upon in the Town of Alta 2025 Municipal Election.

  • Mayor, four-year term
    • John Byrne
    • Roger Bourke
  • Council Seat At-Large, four-year term (2 seats)
    • Carolyn Anctil
    • Paul T. Moxley
    • Craig Heimark

Primary Election: August 12, 2025 (no primary with be held based on the number of candidates)

Primary Election: Alta with not have a primary election based on the number of candidates who filed.

General Election:

October 14, 2025: Mailing of vote-by-mail ballots begins to all active registered voters

October 24, 2025: Voter registration deadline to have a vote-by-mail balot mailed to you

November 4, 2025 Municipal General Election

Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by Salt Lake County by November 4, 2025, at 8:00 PM for your vote to count.  In addition to being mailed, ballots can be dropped off at a vote center or ballot drop box location through 8:00 PM on November 4th.

November 2025: Board of Canvassers certified general election results

January 2026: Newly elected officials take office at noon

Dates for filing a Declaration of Candidacy: 
Monday, June 2, 2025 through Friday, June 6, 2025 between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00 pm.

A Declaration of Candidacy* form must be filed in person with the Town Clerk at the Alta Town Office Building, 10201 East Hwy 210, Alta UT. 

*A person filing a declaration of candidacy for a town office shall meet the requirements of
Utah Code Annotated section 20A-9-03.

Write-In Candidate:  
To become a valid write-in candidate for the election, a person must file a “Write-In Declaration of Candidacy” form in person with the Town Clerk by September 2, 2025.  The candidate must also qualify for all the requirements of the office.

Primary Election:
If the number of candidates for a particular municipal office does not exceed twice the number of persons needed to fill that office, then a primary election for that office will NOT be held and the candidates are considered nominated.
