We care about your privacy, we use the minimal extent of information we need to provide you with services you requested, we safeguard your data and we do not monetize it or improperly share it. The purpose of this statement is to inform users of this site with regard to the collection and use of personally identifiable information (“PII”).

For purposes of this Notice “personally identifiable information” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual who is the subject of the information. This Privacy Policy Statement (the “Statement”) is provided by Town of Alta (“Town”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) in compliance with Utah Code Section 63D-2-103. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Statement explains how we handle your information when you visit this webpage. We want you to understand how your data may be collected, used, and secured.

What Information We Collect

The following information may be automatically collected and retained if you look or search through our web pages, or download information:

• The internet domain and Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using to access our site
• The type of browser and operating system used to visit our site
• The date and time of when you access our site
• Which portions of the website you visit

The data collected serve as part of our statistical analysis about the use of our website so we may better design online services and improve access to them. We do not attempt to gain PII about individual users and associate it with IP addresses. Town of Alta does not use the information automatically collected to ascertain your PII. Town of Alta may detect user IP addresses for providing location-based user information and services. Town of Alta does not maintain or collect user IP addresses or disclose such addresses to any third parties.

Citizens do not have to routinely provide personal information to visit the Town of Alta website or to download information. We may request PII from you in order to provide requested specialized services, but such information is handled as it would be on an in-person visit to our municipal office.

Here’s what we might ask you to provide when you request services from our website:

• Mailing/Service Address
• Any combination of personal information that could be used to verify your identity

How We Use Your Information

 

We use your information for the following purposes:

• Email of other information requests sent to the Town of Alta website may be saved and used to respond to the request, forward the request to the appropriate agency, communicate updates to the Town of Alta site that may be of interest to citizens, or provide the Town of Alta web designer with valuable customer feedback to assist in improving the website.
• Email addresses obtained as a result of a request to the Town of Alta site will not be sold or given to other private companies for marketing purposes. Disclosure Practices

We care about your privacy. We only share your information when necessary. Here’s how we handle disclosures:

• Any personally identifiable information an individual provides to the Town of Alta site will be used solely by Town of Alta, its entities, and third party agents with whom it is contracted to perform a city function on its behalf, unless the information is designated as public record by an individual State agency as authorized under Title 63, Chapter 2, 302, 304 of the Utah Code, entitled “Government Records Access and Management Act” (GRAMA), and the Town of Alta website provides conspicuous notice that such information is subject to public access.

You have the right to access and correct your information. Requests should be directed to the Town Clerk who will ensure the identity of the person requesting access is properly verified before access is given.

Third-Party Services

The Town and elected offices contract with third parties for certain services such as web traffic monitoring, website optimization form submissions, and workflow tools and financial transactions. Some user accounts created on contracted third-party systems may be linked with other third-party websites, such as social media networks. To link your accounts, you must provide your display name or user ID to those third-party websites. You may also be required to engage in an authorization process with each of those websites. We do not receive or store your password from those websites. Whenever you use a third-party service, you are also agreeing to that service’s Privacy Policy.

Keeping Your Information Secure

The Town of Alta is committed to data security and the data integrity of PII available from or collected by Town of Alta websites. We have taken precautions to protect PII from loss, misuse, or alteration. Any authorized third parties or agents responsible for this information are committed to the same principles, and are required by contract and/or Utah law to follow the same policies and guidelines as the Town of Alta in protecting this information. Visitors should be aware, however, that even though protections are in place, Town of Alta cannot guarantee against the occurrence of hardware failure, unauthorized intrusion or other technical problems. 

Note on Records Classification

Personally identifiable information is not a classification of records under Utah Code Section 63G, Chapter 2, Government Records Access and Management Act. Access to government records is governed by Utah Code Section 63G, Chapter 2, Government Records Access and Management Act.
